When Japanese teachers travelled the world and spread their various fighting styles it was not uncommon for newer forms to emerge.
Jiu Jitsu is credited with developing from Kodokan Judo or Newaza. Because of the innovative style it has become well known as BJJ with it’s own unique fighting form
It is a fighting style founded on the belief that a smaller person can defend against a larger opponent.
A lot of Jiu Jitsu is ground fighting and positioning manoeuvres.
It is an ideal self-defence form for anyone, especially women and children when dealing with a larger, stronger opponent Jiu Jitsu neutralises a lot of their strength.
Jiu Jitsu often focuses on takedowns without the use of striking.
Primarily developed for self-defence, many have now come to enjoy it as a sport through competitions.
Like most martial arts forms, Jiu Jitsu is a mentality and a way of life incorporating physical movement. Focusing on control and careful manoeuvres rather than just brute strength.
